Summer Learning
- The equivalent of one month of learning is lost after summer vacation
- 2.6 months of math skills are lost over the summer
- 2 months of reading are lost over the summer
- 6 weeks are spent re-learning old material in the fall to make up for summer learning loss
It takes 2-3 hours of educational activity a week to retain academic skills. It can be done simply by reading throughout the summer (join LAPL’s summer reading program!) and working on just 3-4 math problems a day. Some teachers may have sent students home with summer learning packets. Additionally, check the below links to free apps and resources as well as the downloadable summer learning schedules for each grade level, including incoming first-grade.
Students will continue to have access to their educational school apps through Clever. Some apps include, but are not limited to:
- English Language Arts: Lexia Core 5, Achieve 3000, Amplify
- English learner apps: Rosetta Stone, Reading Horizons, Lexia English
- Math apps:: IXL, ZEARN, Splash Learn, and Prodigy
- Science: Brain Pop and Brain Pop Jr.
Some of the Mid-City’s Prescott teachers have sent students home with summer learning packets. Please check out the below downloadable summer learning schedules for each grade level, including incoming first-graders.
